Season begins for Surfcoast Chargers
THE Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) began on Friday, with Surf Coast Secondary College hosting two games.
The first of these games was made particularly special by it being the first time the Surfcoast Basketball Association has had a female basketball side in the VJBL.
They got off to a perfect start too, as Surfcoast Chargers Under 14 Girls defeated Werribee (3) 50 to 8.
Chargers coach Brendan McKeegan said he was very pleased to begin with such a strong performance.
“For the girls to play at home and to win their first game and to win their first game in a Victorian comp is great.”
McKeegan said the growth of basketball in the area would help the development of his players.
“Once you provide them with a pathway, it gives them the incentive to go out there and practice and gives them a view as to what they can achieve.”
Surfcoast Chargers’ other team in the VJBL is their Under 16 Boys.
They also played Werribee (3), and despite a decent performance lost 71 to 44.
