Sheppard and Scott score Rock2Ramp wins

THE 24th staging of the Rock2Ramp swim at Point Roadknight beach was held in sunny conditions last week.

Sam Sheppard took home the Porthole Cup at the December 28 event for winning the Men’s 2.5km swim, finishing with a time of 27 minutes and 57 seconds ahead of Tristan Read (29:01) and Robbe Dilissen (29:10).

Last year’s Women’s 2.5km winner Naomi Scott was again the first female home with a time of 30:48, ahead of Alexandra Brown in a time of 31:51 and Rebecca Henderson took out third place again this year in a time of 32:04. Scott is presently ranked in the top 10 of the Ocean 6 Nutri-Grain Ironwoman series for 2018/19.

Sheppard backed up his 2.5km swim win with a win in the Men’s Open 1.2km event in a time of 13:43, followed by 2017 winner Jorden Merrilees (13:53) and Robbe Dilissen (14:33).

Naantali Marshall was first home in the Women’s Open 1.2km in a time of 15:25, with Naomi Scott second (in 15:41) and Grace Harris third in a time of 15:59.

The inaugural Banana Boat SwimKids Series event was a popular attraction with plenty of future 1.2km swimmers taking part, ranging from sevenand eight-year olds in the 100m swim/wade, nineand 10-year olds in the 200m swim and 11- and 12-year-olds in the 300m swim.
