Geelong Cats new draft pick Mia Skinner.

TORQUAY’S Mia Skinner has been drafted by the Geelong Cats to be part of their AFLW squad for the upcoming season.

Having previously played for the Torquay Tigers, Skinner has recently been playing for the Geelong Falcons, and had great success with the side.

She was the leading goal-kicker in the NAB League Girls this year with 19 goals to her name.

Having helped the Geelong Falcons to second on the table, Skinner was subsequently named in the NAB League Girls Team of the Year as well as being named the Falcons Most Consistent Player.

Skinner has also played one VFLW game for the Geelong Cats.

Speaking to the Geelong Cats website, Skinner said that while she was excited to get the chance, she was not looking too far into the future.

“Just getting a game really, that’d be my main goal. And then if I do get a game, getting a couple of goals would be nice.”

Skinner was picked in round four of this season’s draft, and was the Cats’ fourth selection.

However, she knew she would be selected earlier than most other draft picks, as the Cats’ AFLW list manager Ben Waller and coach Paul Hood told her six weeks ahead of time that they wanted to draft her.
