Stronger Communities grant gets the lights on in Lorne
MEMBERS of the Lorne Bowls Club, members of the Lorne community and tourists can now enjoy night bowls through a $20,000 federal government grant.
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson visited the club earlier this month to switch on the lights, funded by round two of the Stronger Communities Program, for the first time.
“The lights will encourage greater community participation and lead to an improvement in community vibrancy,” she said.
“The project included the installation of eight light towers to provide LED lighting to the bowling green.
“Night bowling will also provide an additional activity for conference participants, corporate functions and social bowls.”
Across Corangamite, 28 projects have been funded under rounds one and two of the Stronger Communities Program.
These include $18,000 to the Lorne CFA for the purchase of a new command vehicle, $10,000 to assist the Torquay Marine Rescue Service purchase a rescue jet ski and $10,000 to the Ocean Grove and District Men’s Shed for a shed upgrade.
Ms Henderson said round three of the Stronger Communities program recently closed, with applications now being considered by the Department of Industry.
“I look forward to seeing new local projects that will help build stronger communities in Corangamite.”
