Suns get the jumper on competition during Sir Doug Nicholls Round
WHILE the greater AFL community celebrated Sir Doug Nicholls round through all AFL games this past weekend, the Surf Coast Suns celebrated the weekend in their own way.
Wearing their Indigenous jumper, the only club in the region to have one, the Suns U13s took on Leopold on the Grenville Oval in the Banyul Warri Sports Precinct.
Leopold took the points in a terrific tight game, defeating the Suns 5.6.36 to 4.9.33.
“The purpose of the jumper is to create conversation and awareness of local Indigenous sensitivities, and recognise the important history of Aboriginal Australia,” club president Michael Thomas said.
“We are very proud to show where we stand as a club and teach our players about ongoing current events such as National Reconciliation Week and the establishment Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission.”
The Suns will wear their Indigenous jumper throughout the season
