The Under 14 Boys grand final was won by the Surfcoast Sixers

GOATS won the Surf Coast Basketball Association Division 1 grand final last week, after defeating Knights in overtime.

The 2019 winter season has been the Association’s first since taking over competitions from the Surf Coast Shire.

All the junior and senior divisions held their grand finals last week, but Goats’ meeting with Knights was one of the closest.

The Knights had finished first on the ladder, but Goats were only one point behind them. The final was similarly close, with Goats managing to finish get a narrow two-point victory in overtime, with the scores having been tied in normal time.

In Division 2, Sonic defeated Flaming Chooks 44 to 28. Sonic won every game played throughout the season, finishing 11 points clear of the next
best side.

The Under 23 Men’s grand final was won by a single point as Southside defeated Rincon 28 to 27. While Rincon won two of the four meetings between the sides, this was the second time this season Southside had beaten them by a single point.

Torquay Nuggets won the Under 16 boys division, defeating Anglesea Sharks 25 to 12. Anglesea Sharks had finished first on the ladder with an impressive percentage of 302.09, but were unable to take the final step in the grand final.

Surfcoast Sixers defeated Anglesea Joeys 35 to 27 in the Under 14 Boys.

In the Under 12 Girls, Zappers defeated The Rebels 39 to 15.

There were two Under 12 Boys divisions this season. Bellbrae Redbacks won Division 1 after beating Torquay Warriors 39 to 27, while in Division 2 Anglesea Troopers defeated Eagles 30 to 22.

There is plenty of interest in basketball in the region, as the association will be adding Under 14 Girls and Women’s competitions next season.
