SOUTH Barwon is out to change its record against Leopold in the GFL seniors grand final rematch tomorrow (Saturday, May 24) at McDonald Reserve at 2.10pm.
The Swans haven’t beaten the Lions in the past two seasons and have lost consecutive deciders to them.
Coach Mark Neeld also noted their 21-point grand final loss last year was the closest his side had got in that period.
“They’ve certainly got the wood over us and we’d like to give them a bit more competition and actually and see how we go,” he said.
The eighth-placed Lions will also be determined to play well after losing their past two games to St Mary’s and Newtown and Chilwell respectively.
South Barwon, which is fourth, beat Geelong West Giants by 59 points after trailing by 18 at quarter-time last weekend.
The Swans kicked six goals to 0.1 in the second term, with Neeld noting there was a strong breeze in the first half to one end, which dropped off later in the game.
Fraser Fort was best afield with six goals.
“He’s pivotal to the way that we play and provides a really good target inside forward 50,” Neeld said.
“Probably after halfway through the third quarter we were able to give him a fair supply and he went to work.”
New faces to the team Connor Weidemann (Rupanyup) and Leigham Elzinga (Bannockburn) also played well.
South Barwon is aiming for its fourth win of the year and has defeated Grovedale, North Shore and the Giants so far.
