TENNIS Geelong’s Annual General Meeting took place at Deakin Cats Community Centre on Wednesday, September 5, highlighted by the merger of the Bellarine Peninsula Tennis Association with Tennis Geelong.

Not only but also, a new life member of the association, Geelong Lawn’s Greg Leslie, suitably surprised and delighted at his induction.

This follows Greg’s life membership award at Geelong Lawn 18 months back – a great night for one of local tennis’ most passionate servants!

The winter and summer club of the year awards were made by Tennis Geelong president Donna Schoenmaekers and it was a clean sweep by the all-conquering Wandana Heights, a club which has certainly hit the heights, perhaps due to a fantastic junior program and some dedicated people at the helm.

Donna was elected association president for the third time, with Trevor Colbert and Wayne McKinlay remaining secretary and treasurer, respectively.

Tennis Victoria’s Pete McDonald took the floor to explain future initiatives and took questions from a robust audience of around 50 club representatives.

Discussions included the upcoming association night tennis competition, working with children issues and more – and posing the question “what will the tennis scene be in 2025?”.

Hopefully very healthy. On that note, Donna closed the meeting at 8.30pm, wishing all clubs a successful and enjoyable season of tennis!
