Test sail and sea at try day

January 12, 2018 BY

IT’S A case of sail and see, with Torquay Sailing Club’s “Try Sailing” workshops starting on January 14.

Running over the school holidays, the workshops encourage children and adults wanting to sail to come along and learn the skills.

A second O’pen Bic training course for young people will start on January 16 running every Tuesday afternoon for eight weeks.

Chris Hordern from TSC said the course for children uses O’pen Bic yachts, which are a small craft ideal for young people.

“All the courses cover the setting up and rigging of the boat, the fundamentals of sailing, safety on the water and much more,” Mr Hordern said.

“The course will provide an excellent opportunity for those with little or no experience in sailing to learn the basics with experienced sailors as instructors all with a background in teaching the art of sailing.”

For adults, there are two training sessions over the holiday period – January 14 and a second beginning February 25, both running over a four-week period.

The training course for adults will use the Club’s fleet of Hobie Waves – a small catamaran – easily managed by beginners and provides a safe introduction to catamaran sailing.

Mr Hordern said for those who don’t have a boat and would like to sail during the holiday period the club has Hobie Waves for hire.

“In addition the club has a very good deal whereby you can have access to a Hobie Wave for the whole season for the modest fee of $300,” he said.
