The Sands Torquay – October 4, 2018

October 3, 2018 BY

WEDNESDAY September 26 Stableford off the White tees for the Men today. Beautiful day for golf, with the sun shining, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. Seventy-seven golfers made for a two-grade competition. In A Grade it was Luke Muller [1] who continued his consistent run of great golf, coming out the winner on a massive 41 points. Travis Agg [10] also played a blinder and was right on the leaders’ heels, closing out his round on 40 points. In B Grade, it was a tight affair, with the result decided by a c/b. Tim Freer [20] was the eventual winner over Mark Zahra [28], with both competitors finishing on a whopping 41 points. The ball pool rand down the line to 34 points, while Austin Swain was crowned King of the Par 3’s, collecting both nearest to pins on the day (7th and 17th hole).

Friday September 28 Stableford off the Blue tees for the Men and Red tees for the Ladies in the Jarrod Lyle Memorial Golf Day. The cold wind and drizzling rain throughout the day didn’t deter the masses from coming out to support the Lyle family and Challenge. Domenic Luca [13] and Gavin Saunders [16] adapted to the testing conditions the best, with both golfers ending their round on 40 points, which was an unreal effort. But, after a c/b, it was Domenic who finished in top position, followed by Gavin, and Jim Demetrious [9] rounding out the top 3 on 38 points. The ball pool for the day ran down the line to 32 points, while Terry Wilcher (7th hole, 3.40m) and Dylan Everett (13th hole, 3.50m) took home the nearest to pins. On behalf of the Pro Shop, a massive thankyou to all the members and guests from afar who came out on their day off and played on our amazing course in support of Jarrod, the Lyle family and Challenge.

Saturday September 29 Ambrose on AFL Grand Final morning. Ninety-six players/25 teams jumped on the course today. It was Team Bell, Hester and Cranny coming out the winner, finishing on 57.333. Team Hoffmann, Siketa, Musselwhite & Murdoch were close behind on 57.875, good enough for runner up.

Sunday September 30 Stableford off the Whites for Men and Golds for Ladies in today’s Medley competition. Another beautiful day for golf, with the sun a welcome addition from yesterday’s poor weather. It was Daniel Schoenicke (13), coming out as winner on the day with a score of 44 points, followed by Mick Sunderland (11), who closed out their round on 39 points. The ball pool for the day ran down to 37 points. Congratulations to Matt Berry who got an Eagle on the 9th hole!
