TORQUAY’S senior side has started their premiership defence in the BFL in good order, beating Modewarre in a close game at home on Good Friday.

The Tigers – who unveiled their 2017 flag on Wednesday – led at every change but inaccurate kicking troubled both sides, particularly in the third quarter, where Torquay kicked two goals and four behinds and the Warriors kicked one goal and five behinds.

Torquay eventually ran out nine-point winners, 7.8 (50) to 5.11 (41).

Paul McMahon kicked four goals and Sam Wormald kicked three for the home side.

In round 2, the Tigers will play Queenscliff away, while Modewarre will host Newcomb at home.
