JUNIOR footy players at the Torquay Tigers have received a welcome boost of more than $2,000 worth of AFL equipment thanks to Macca’s On Your Team, a community initiative from McDonald’s.

The equipment, including footballs, coach’s boards and ball-carrying bags, was presented to members of the Tigers’ under-9 and under-10 teams at the Torquay McDonald’s store on Wednesday.

Now in its third year, Maccas On Your Team provides sporting equipment to junior AFL clubs throughout metro and regional Victoria, with equipment donations exceeding $1 million to date.

The program aims to encourage Victorian junior sports participants to get involved in community sports, socialise with friends and lead active lifestyles.

Stuart Coomes from McDonald’s Torquay said he was thrilled to deliver AFL equipment mto his local football club and show his ongoing commitment to grassroots sport in the area.

Torquay Tigers president Jen Wood said she was grateful for the donation from McDonald’s, and the store had been a long-time supporter of her club.

“Footballs wear out or go missing; you can go through them very quickly. A full-size football costs about $100, so this sort of support is fantastic.”

As well as AFL, Maccas On Your Team also provides sporting equipment to community soccer clubs, basketball associations and schools throughout Victoria.
