GROVEDALE survived a late poster from Thomson to continue their winning streak in AFL Barwon female football Division 1 at the weekend.
The undefeated Tigers won 3.5 (23) to 3.2 (20) at home and will play ninth-placed Anglesea on May 25 in Round 6 after their bye.
“So if it goes through, they get over the top of us, even though we led all day,” Grovedale coach Paul Price said of the dying moments.
“The shot that they took was under pressure and but it could have floated through.
“We watched it go through the air and weren’t sure until it actually hit the post… that was probably about a minute and a half to go.”
Price said the Tigers’ defenders stood up in the final 15 minutes to repel Thomson’s forward entries.
He said the group would continue to work on its ball movement and foster the development of its exciting, young players.
“We’re probably not quite as strong in the front half at the moment and scoring as well as what we’d like to,” Price said.
In terms of injuries, the Tigers are without 2024 premiership player Jorja Kirsopp-Cole who broke a bone in the back of her hand against St Joseph’s in round 4.
Price said she would likely be out for six to eight weeks. The Tigers have also had several players unavailable due to VFLW commitments.
