Tigers, Joeys looking to build on winning starts
COLAC co-coach Jason Armistead is enjoying being back at his old club and leading the Geelong Football Netball League senior team with former St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross.
The Tigers will be eyeing two wins in a row when they host North Shore tomorrow (Saturday, April 12) at 2.10pm.
They came from 12 points down at three-quarter-time to overcome Bell Park 10.11 (71) to 9.4 (58) in their round 0 twilight match at home.
“The crowd got right behind the boys and it was a pretty exciting way to finish the game,” Armistead said.
He added the Tigers, who had four debutants, got back on track after a poor third quarter in what was a high-intensity contest.
Keilor recruit and Essendon VFL player Oskar Smartt was among their best with two goals.
Armistead said it had been great to be back at Central Reserve after about two decades away.
“You obviously know a lot of the people that were around when you were and now there are a few of the children of the guys I played with playing,” he said.
“So that’s been a great way to reconnect with my old club.
“With Seb, he’s obviously up to date with the way the game is played and we’ve been able to implement a few of the things they were doing at St Kilda.
“Overall, he’s just a really good bloke who enjoys being around a country footy club.”
Meanwhile, Newtown and Chilwell will be looking to turn the tables after falling 15.12 (102) to 10.7 (67) to St Joseph’s in round 0.
They battle Bell Park at Elderslie Reserve while Joeys will rest up ahead of their Lorne game against Leopold on April 19.
