Torquay goes down to Marshall in T20 final
TORQUAY has gone down swinging in its Division 2 T20 grand final, losing by 14 runs to Marshall.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat at South Barwon Reserve, scoring 128 for the loss of nine wickets off their 20 overs.
Marshall openers Jack Cole and Stuart Blythe attacked the Tigers bowlers early and top scored for their side, hitting 39 and 25 respectively, including eight fours and two sixes between them.
Anthony Foord and Ashley Russell each took three wickets for Torquay, and Paul Burchell took three catches.
In response, Billy Henderson came out blazing at the top of the order, smashing a team-high 40 off 38 deliveries including five fours and two sixes.
His departure along with Tom Jefferson for a duck left the Tigers at 3/58, and although Ashley Russell hit an almost-run-a-ball 29, all but one of the other batters did not make it into double figures and Torquay ran out of overs, finishing at 7/114.
Brad Greenwood was the best of Marshall’s bowlers, taking four wickets off his four overs.
