Torquay track star takes gold

Kasey Perkins, 14, has won gold and bronze at the Victorian Junior Athletics Championship in Melbourne in the women’s Under 16 200-metre hurdles and 90-metre hurdles respectively.

TORQUAY’S track star Kasey Perkins, 14, has taken home a gold and bronze medal after the Victorian Junior Athletics Championship in Melbourne.

Representing the Geelong Guild Athletics Club at Lakeside Stadium over the weekend, Kasey competed in the women’s Under 16 200-metre hurdles, 90-metre hurdles and high jump.

The 14-year-old took out the gold medal in the Women’s Under 16 200-metre hurdles and bronze in 90-metre hurdles.

This weekend Kasey will again represent Victoria in the Australian Junior Multi Event Championships at Lakeside Stadium Melbourne.

Kasey will also represent Victoria at the upcoming 2018 Australian Junior Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Track from March 14-18 in the 200-metre hurdles, 90-metre hurdles and 200-metre sprint.

Mandi Cole, Kasey’s coach for the past three years, said she had with a bright future ahead of her in the world of athletics.

“She’s an amazing athlete with a lot of potential and in my opinion she will go far,” Ms Cole said.

“She is very determined and hates to lose. Her style is very much her own.”
