Trio of Cats named in All Australian squad

THREE players from the Geelong Football Club have been lauded for their outstanding seasons by being named in the squad for the 2024 All Australian Team.

Announced by the AFL last night (Monday, August 26), the squad of 44 players recognises the leading players from this year across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders, midfielders and rucks.

The three Cats players are:

Jeremy Cameron

• 2013, 2019, 2022 All Australian, squad member 2015
• 22 matches this season, 58 goals, 35 behinds
• Averages 16.2 disposals, 67.1 per cent disposal efficiency, 6.2 marks, 3.2 inside 50s, 7.3 score involvements, 0.5 contested marks, 1.8 tackles and 0.7 goal assists.

Max Holmes

• Never previously All Australian, never previously squad member
• 23 matches this season, 13 goals, 4 behinds
• Averages 24.2 disposals, 68.0 per cent disposal efficiency, 5.6 marks, 1.2 intercept marks, 0.7 spoils and 3.3 rebound 50s.

Tyson Stengle

• 2022 All Australian
• 23 matches this season, 42 goals, 16 behinds
• Averages 13.5 disposals, 60.5 per cent disposal efficiency, 2.7 marks, 2.9 inside 50s, 6.1 score involvements, 0.5 contested marks, 2.3 tackles and 0.8 goal assists.

Fremantle had the most players selected in the squad, with five.

Max Gawn is in line for a potential seventh All Australian selection, making Gawn potentially the 10th player in competition history with seven or more All Australian blazers.

The final team of 22, as per the criteria established in 2007, will be selected as if to play a match, and will be named this Thursday, August 29, as part of the AFL Awards.

This year’s All Australian selection panel comprises Andrew Dillon (chair), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Abbey Holmes, Glen Jakovich, Matthew Pavlich, Laura Kane and Josh Mahoney.
