Twilight Social League enjoys fundraising success at Anglesea

The Money raised by the competition, which is sponsored by Great Ocean Road Properties, will go to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, the Anglesea War Memorial construction, Lions Clubs Australia Bush Fire Relief Fund and Rural Aid.

Funds have been raised through raffles that have taken place each Thursday at the Barefoot Bowls Competition.

Event organiser Leon Wilson says he has been delighted with people’s generosity.

“People have been exceptionally willing. We’ve made record contributions to the raffle, so much so that people ask where the money is going each week.”

The competition adds some colour to the sport, including dress ups, a hat night and a Christmas themed night for the final fixture of the competition.

While there is some great competition, with Goldies and Lonely Hearts currently vying for top spot, the results are secondary to the experience.

There are weekly awards on offer and there is always plenty of dancing inspired by Gerard Morrison’s music.

The charities the money goes are very diverse.

Some are local like the The Anglesea and District War Memorial which is looking to raise $65,000 to erect a memorial in Cameron Park on which the names of locals who have served in battle will be inscribed.

Other charities have broader aims, like Rural Aid who provide farmers with various forms of aid in times of drought.

The Twilight Social League has been a big success for the bowling club in recent years, and has thrived in 2019 despite the number of teams having to be limited due to the replacement of one of the club’s greens.
