United target another win over Lightning
GEELONG United will be hoping to repeat its winning ways over the Adelaide Lightning tomorrow (Sunday, December 8) at Geelong Arena.
United was 72-66 victors over Adelaide in November and will take confidence out of the strong shooting and defensive prowess they showed last time out.
This past weekend, however, Geelong was blown away by the Sydney Flames by 35 points (55-90) in the harbour city.
Travelling interstate for the first time this season, United kept pace for the first half, before being dominated in the second.
The Flames blocked nine of United’s shots and held the visitors to a minimal 26 per cent from the field and 13.6 per cent from the three point-line.
Shaneice Swain dominated for the Flames, helping herself to 25 points, five assists and two rebounds.
Former Opals player Cayla George was also strong and put up 13 points and eight rebounds.
For United, Keely Froling battled hard for 11 points and 12 rebounds to continue her run of double-double performances.
Head coach Chris Lucas said his side were dissatisfied with their performance.
“All credit to Sydney they set the tone and carried it through. We are very disappointed.
“They shot the ball particularly well and the depth of their bench was great.
“We weren’t aggressive enough on our shots. The team was leaving it up to other individuals to make plays.
“For us, we need to digest it, regroup and get ready for the next one [against Adelaide].”
Tomorrow’s matchup against the Lightning begins at 12.30pm.
