Victorian Open Series to begin at Djarrak
DJARRAK/Bells Beach will host the state’s best surfers for the launch of the 2023-24 Victorian Open Series this weekend.
More than 40 athletes will surf it out tomorrow (Saturday, October 7) in a bid to secure vital ranking points towards a spot in the 2024 Rip Curl Pro Trials.
Surfers to watch on the women’s side of the draw include local talent Emily McGettigan (Torquay), national number one ranked U/16 junior surfer Ava Holland (Mornington Peninsula) and Sarah Sueren (Inverloch).
In the men’s field, WSL Qualifying Series surfer Xavier Huxtable (Jan Juc) will be chasing another state round title, while Harry De Roth (Phillip Island) and Pedro Lani (Mornington Peninsula) will also be searching for a strong result.
Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Roberton said he was looking forward to seeing Victoria’s best take to the water.
“The Victorian Open Series is an amazing opportunity for our surfers to get a chance at going up against the worlds best at the Rip Curl Pro, but also for our up-and-coming surfers it is a great chance to learn from the states best surfers.
“Good luck to all surfers competing this weekend and across the whole series.”
After hitting the shores at Djarrak/Bells Beach, the three-part series will head to Phillip Island in February 2024, before finishing at the Mornington Peninsula in March 2024.
