MODEWARRE will take on another 2024 grand finalist this weekend after taking lessons from its 13-point defeat to BFL seniors reigning premier Torquay three weeks ago.
In Round 8, the Warriors face Anglesea at the Roos’ Ellimatta Reserve tomorrow (Saturday, May 31).
“We won hit-outs but they clearly beat us around stoppage, so that’s an area that we’re focused on now,” coach Mark Hovey said of the defeat to the Tigers.
“We’ve got big Zack May, who is one of the taller ruckmen in the comp, who gets his hands on the footy a bit.

“And there’s just a combination of three or four little tweaks that we just need to make to make sure we take advantage of his work in the ruck.”
The coach said the Warriors are a defence-first team and would keep honing that while looking to ramp up their attack.
“We’re keeping opposition to reasonably lowish scores but we probably need to find a few more goals up the other end at times ourselves.”
While seventh-placed Modewarre is building with three wins from its past four games, Anglesea has enjoyed a fine start to the season, sitting second with a 5-2 win-loss record.

The Warriors are coming off an 11-point victory against Barwon Heads in which they hung on in a long final quarter.
Hovey described Saturday as a huge day for the club with Josh Finch playing match 330 and breaking Paul Meesen’s 18-year record for club games.
Finch is a four-time league best and fairest is one of the most decorated players in BFNL history.
