Webb adds another Aussie title
TORQUAY surfer Emma Webb added another two Australian titles to her trophy cabinet at the 2023 Australian SUP Titles at Sussex Inlet in New South Wales.
Webb was able to come out victorious in the Over 40 Women Longboard SUP division and the 10ft Open Women discipline, seeing her tally on Australian Titles head into double digits.
More than 100 athletes from across Australia competed in the national event over the weekend, with champions crowned in 17 divisions in both surfing and technical racing.
Webb was able to take advantage of the smaller surf conditions on offer in the earlier rounds to put her board vertical in the most critical sections throughout the competition.
She was able to take her momentum into the 10ft Open Women final and secure two high range scores to defeat strong former Australian champion Keale Dorries (QLD), Hannah Finlay-Jones (NSW) and Skylar Rayner (NSW).
Webb followed it up with a clutch performance in her Over 40 age division to dominate her opponents.
Fellow Victorian Lucy Bell was able to claim fourth place.
Surfing Australia event specialist Rohan Fell said it was terrific to see the top-level surfing on display throughout the event.
“Finals day today was much to everyone’s surprise as the south-east swell continued to pulse throughout the day despite the opposing northeast winds.
“We saw a groomed A-frame peak in the two-foot range for all competitors.
“The open men and women were greeted with some three-foot sets for their finals.
“It was fantastic to see.”
