WESTERN United is calling on all its supporters to get behind the club as it hosts Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.

In what is being dubbed the Battle of the Bridge, AAMI Park will be rebranded the WUFC home stadium for the weekend as United lights Melbourne up with light green for the clash.

Western United CEO Chris Pehlivanis said the club was excited to add another chapter to the growing rivalry.

“To be playing a home game at AAMI Park is a totally new experience for the players and the club, and everyone is really pumped up about it,” Mr Pehlivanis said.

“The team is ready for this marquee game and we are dubbing it The Battle of the Bridge.  It marks out the geographical divide of Melbourne and shows that we represent the hardworking and aspirational people of Melbourne and Victoria’s west.”

In a unique initiative, fans will quite literally be supporting from their side of the bridge.

“At the stadium on Saturday night, the fans will be representing their side of the bridge in a physical sense with the Western United supporters sitting on the western side of the ground, while the away fans will sit in the eastern bays.”

Western United will play selected home games at AAMI Park in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, starting with this weekend’s derby.

Saturday’s match will kickoff at 5.05pm.
