GEELONG Venom has secured more A-Grade talent ahead of the coming Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season by signing Maine native Mackenzie Holmes.

The 6’3 forward arrives in Geelong via the Seattle Storm, who selected her 26th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Holmes played college basketball at the University of Indiana where she is the all-time leading scorer with 2,530 points.

She holds the program’s record for most wins and became its first All American.

Holmes also led Indiana to four NCAA tournament appearances, including two Sweet Sixteens and an Elite Eight.

She said she was really looking forward to joining Geelong for the 2025-26 WNBA season.

“I chose Geelong because I’ m really excited about this group, and I feel like it’ s going to be a great place for me to continue to grow and thrive as a basketball player.

“Fans can expect someone who is going to work hard day in and day out, be a great teammate, and give great energy.”

Geelong Venom head coach Chris Lucas said Holmes was the type of player who led by example.

“Her professionalism, her work ethic, and the way she carries herself sets a standard for those around her.

“We’re confident Mackenzie will not only strengthen us on the floor but also bring a sense of leadership and connection that will help to shape the culture of this group.”
