Women’s football set to soar at Drysdale
VFLW star and Ocean Grove local Lauren Bazeley has been announced as the inaugural Under 18’s women’s coach for 2019 at the Drysdale Football Club.
Lauren has 14 years of VFLW experience under her belt and has previously taken to the field with current AFLW players Brianna Davey, Moana Hope, Jasmine Garner, Jenna Bruton and Phoebe McWilliams.
“I’m really excited to be the first Under 18’s women’s coach at Drysdale,” Lauren said.
“After being out of football for a few years I’m really looking forward to the challenge, getting back into coaching and giving back to women’s football”.
Lauren has represented Victoria on five separate occasions and was named in the All-Australian team in 2007 and 2009.
“After 184 games, by the end of 2015 I decided to hang up the boots and start a family, and in August 2017 I was blessed with a little boy,” she said.
“It’s great to see football growing so much in the Barwon region.
“The junior competition is so strong and it’s only going to get stronger.”
Despite 2019 being the first year Drysdale Football club can field an Under 18 women’s side, Lauren has big expectations for her team.
“I am actually a very competitive person, so I’d love to achieve success and win a premiership,” she said.
“Drysdale Football club has such a great support system and culture, that I think anyone wanting to give the sport a try should do so at Drysdale.”
The Drysdale Football club is currently recruiting for the Under 12, 15, 18 and Senior Women’s sides.
A Women’s ‘Come and Try’ day will be held on Sunday November 11 from 12pm to 2pm at the Drysdale Recreation Reserve, with free activities, a BBQ and a special meet and greet with AFLW players.
