GEELONG’s newest all-abilities club will be hosting four new football clinics on the Bellarine Peninsula.<\/p>\n
Starting March 12, the Geelong All Abilities Stars Sports Club will kick off a four week all-abilites Auskick program at the Drysdale Sports Precinct.<\/p>\n
The program, which will be supported by senior players from Portarlington, Ocean Grove and Drysdale Football Clubs will be suitable for children aged 5-15 years old.<\/p>\n
It will provide participants with a great introduction into football with fun activities, small groups and quick rotations.<\/p>\n
Goalkicking, tackle bags, spekkie bags, bump bags and marking will all be included.<\/p>\n
Geelong Stars lead Scott Smith said members couldn’t wait to get their teeth into the football program.<\/p>\n
“We are starting to get members from Meredith,<\/p>\n
Clifton Springs, Armstrong Creek and Norlane, so by going down to the Bellarine Peninsula it helps to grow our program.<\/p>\n
“If we can tap in there, it’ll be great. We’ve got 5 players already locked in.<\/p>\n
“The clubs have been super supportive with giving us players on the day. The three clubs will help run the clinics.”<\/p>\n
It is hoped the clinics will assist local clubs in recognising an all abilities model which they can implement within their programs.<\/p>\n
“This is really what has started the club,” Mr Smith added.<\/p>\n
“Everyone who has really signed up with us has tried a mainstream program, and walked away because it hasn’t been inclusive.<\/p>\n
“Our role is to give them, the local clubs that sort of model so they can start to use it.” The sessions will run from 5.15pm to 6pm.<\/p>\n
