BARWON HEADS Airport will receive a $104,695 upgrade under the federal government’s Regional Airports Program, improving safety, security, and access for local aviation services.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Libby Coker said the funding would ensure the airport continues to serve the region for years to come.<\/p>\n
“The Albanese Government absolutely recognises the role that regional airports like Barwon Heads play in building stronger communities and driving a thriving tourism scene,” she said.<\/p>\n
Ms Coker said the airport provided a range of services, from skydiving and scenic flights to King Island connections and pilot training.<\/p>\n
“It also plays an important role training our next generation pilots, with the flight school providing truly awesome opportunities for young people and locals looking for a new hobby or career change,” she said.<\/p>\n
The funding is part of a $4.5 million investment across nine regional airports in Victoria.<\/p>\n
Works at Barwon Heads will include resurfacing the taxiway, sealing neighbouring run-up bays, resealing damaged sections of the runway, and installing high fencing.<\/p>\n
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said regional airports played a crucial role in keeping communities connected.<\/p>\n

“We know how vital regional airports are to the communities they service, ensuring access to other towns, to markets, and to vital services such as emergency health care.<\/p>\n
