A NEW partnership between the City of Greater Geelong and the Ocean Grove SLSC will see an accessible beach wheelchair made available for public use at Ocean Grove Beach.<\/p>\n
The city has provided a MobiChair to the club at no cost, making it free for community members with mobility challenges.<\/p>\n
This marks the first time the City has introduced a MobiChair at an ocean beach, with existing chairs located at Eastern Beach public pool and Indented Head Boat Club.<\/p>\n
Connewarre Ward councillor Elise Wilkinson welcomed the partnership.<\/p>\n
“The partnership and this initiative is a small but meaningful step that enables our beaches to be more accessible and inclusive for all residents and visitors,” Cr Wilkinson said.<\/p>\n
“It’s been such a great collaboration, including life jackets donated by the Ocean Grove Disabled Surfers Association, and accessible toilets managed by Barwon Coast Committee of Management Inc.”<\/p>\n
The MobiChair allows users to move easily from the car park to the sand and into the water, with large armrests that double as flotation devices.<\/p>\n

The initiative aligns with the city’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2024-28, which focuses on improving accessibility across public spaces.<\/p>\n
