BARWON River’s new bird observation point in Ocean Grove is now officially open.<\/p>\n

The launch on Friday last week was also a celebration of the ecological significance of the estuary and highlighting the area’s birdlife.<\/p>\n

The Barwon River Estuary is a habitat for resident and migratory birds, with the new observation point offering a dedicated space for the community to engage with nature, learn about wildlife and appreciate the environmental asset.<\/p>\n

Barwon Coast committee of management chair Sandra Gatehouse said it was special to celebrate the observation point opening.<\/p>\n

“The site is a true community asset, designed to complement the environment while offering opportunities for people to connect with Country.<\/p>\n

The new observation point offers a dedicated point for the community to engage with nature.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Already, both locals and visitors are pausing to appreciate the river, observe local wildlife and reflect on the beauty of this remarkable place.”<\/p>\n

Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Corrina Eccles opened the event with a Welcome to Country with remarks from Ms Gatehouse following and the observation point officially opened by Bellarine MP Alison Marchant.<\/p>\n

The observation point was supported by the Victorian government through the Victorian Landcare Grants Program and the Corangamite Catchment Authority.<\/p>\n

“I am proud to support the new Barwon River Bird Observation Point, made possible thanks to the hard work of Barwon Coast, Bellarine Catchment Network and local volunteers and organisations,” Ms Marchant said.<\/p>\n

“This new space will allow the community to connect with nature and highlight the Barwon River’s vital role as a Ramsar wetland, preserving migratory bird habitats and our local ecosystem.”<\/p>\n

The observation point can be found at Peers Crescent with visitors encouraged to take their own binoculars, sit back and enjoy the river.<\/p>\n
