{"id":101714,"date":"2025-03-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-28T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=101714"},"modified":"2025-03-27T12:02:07","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T01:02:07","slug":"father-daughter-team-take-on-firefighting-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/father-daughter-team-take-on-firefighting-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Father-daughter team take on firefighting championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEMBERS from fire brigades across Victoria will battle it out this at the Rural Juniors and Seniors State Championships, including a determined duo from Mannerim.<\/p>\n<p>Father-daughter team Jeff and Em Avery have competed in many championships themselves and also coach four teams including a legacy team, mixed team, women&#8217;s team and junior&#8217;s team.<\/p>\n<p>Em said her dad had been a huge help in getting the teams going and she loves coaching alongside him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What I love about the champs is seeing everyone have fun. I love the adrenaline rush and the teamwork.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a level of seriousness but you have to enjoy it, and I do my best to make sure my brigade has fun.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/IMG_9241cropped_14117.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"528\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Rural Juniors and Seniors State Championships feature teams from different fire brigades across the state. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the championships, firefighting equipment displays, training demonstrations, trade displays, award presentations and more will take place.<\/p>\n<p>Em encouraged everyone to get involved with the historic event and is looking forward to competing and watching her teams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The events are everything our firefighters already know how to do, it just boosts their skill sets in a fun way, it also brings brigades together from across the state,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If your brigade doesn&#8217;t compete in the championships, please look for a nearby brigade and join their team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Em is also the co-ordinator for the junior teams, taking over the role of her dad who is heavily committed as captain of the Mannerim Fire Brigade.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/03\/IMG_91802_14139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mannerim brigade have four teams, coached by Em Avery and her dad Jeff.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Joining the brigade at just 11 years old, the CFA has always been an important part of Em&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel like I&#8217;ve been a member since I was born because of my strong connection to the brigade and Dad took over the CFA juniors when I was five years old,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was too young to join but I was always helping dad and running along with him and the juniors for as long as I can remember.
