Geelong will host its largest exhibition for people with disability when artX Regional returns next week.<\/p>\n
Co-ordinated by genU, the exhibition features works from artists in regional Victoria and over the age of 16 who are living with a disability or with a history of mental health illness.<\/p>\n
Chief executive officer of genU Clare Amies said it was an opportunity for artists to share their works and be inspired.<\/p>\n
“genU is proud to hold this annual showcase event to celebrate the incredible artistic talent within our region and highlight the diversity and inclusiveness,” she said.<\/p>\n
The 2025 exhibition will be the biggest one yet, with a change to the rules allowing artists to enter up to three pieces for judging, attracting more than 150 entries.<\/p>\n
Walls of the gallery space will be filled from one end to the other and include a variety of mediums from paintings and drawings through to photographs and sculptures.<\/p>\n
A new category has also been introduced this year, the High Achievement Award.<\/p>\n
“We have introduced this prize to acknowledge the commitment and progress of an artist who has recently started exploring their artistic creativity and evolving journey,” Ms Amies said.<\/p>\n
“We are so pleased to be presenting first and runner-up prizes and will be once again purchasing the winner’s artwork to proudly hang in our genU art Hall of Fame at our head office in Belmont.”<\/p>\n
On top of having their artwork purchased, the winning artist will also receive a $250 gift voucher, along with the runner-up.<\/p>\n
artX regional will run in the Rachinger Gallery at the Eastern Hub Community Centre from Thursday, April 3 until April 24.<\/p>\n
