THE Borough of Queenscliffe will host a come and try day tomorrow (Friday, April 11) to promote the accessible beach matting currently in place at the Tandberg boardwalk in Queenscliff.<\/p>\n
In conjunction with the Borough’s Lived Experience Disability Group, the event will showcase a wide range of all accessible equipment.<\/p>\n
Those with mobility impairments will be able to use an all-terrain walker, a sand-cruiser wheelchair, a Mobi-Chair floating wheelchair and portable hoists.<\/p>\n
For the first time in Victoria, a Sea-Access ramp will also be in use to allow for improved access to the water.<\/p>\n
The Sea-Access ramp is a ten-metre-long motorised ramp which makes it possible for wheelchair bound people to enter and exit the water completely independently.<\/p>\n
Borough mayor Di Rule said she was excited for the day.<\/p>\n
“I’m so pleased the Borough has finally provided these mats to help those with limited mobility to access our beautiful water. Being in the sea helps everyone – you never regret a swim!’<\/p>\n
LEDG chair Bree-arne Manley echoed her excitement.<\/p>\n
“If you’re scared of something do it anyway because chances are it’s not as scary as what you thought, and then you’ll feel awesome after you’ve done it.”<\/p>\n
Hoists will be available for those who require transfer assistance, however attendees must bring their own sling and someone to assist them.<\/p>\n
The event will run from 10am to 3pm.<\/p>\n
The Tandberg boardwalk is located across the road from the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.<\/p>\n
