\n\u00bb Reports of whiting, trevally and salmon are still being received.<\/p>\n

\u00bb Some whiting to be caught as well as pinkies
\n\u00bb Salmon catches continue off our local beaches
\n\u00bb Still some flathead reports
\n\u00bb Spring Creek continues to produce some nice bream.<\/p>\n

QUEENSCLIFF<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bb St Leonards: still whiting, squid, pinkie and flathead
\n\u00bb Indented Head: reports of whiting, squid and a few flathead once again
\n\u00bb Swan Bay: some flathead, King George whiting and salmon near the entrance
\n\u00bb Point Lonsdale pier has salmon, whiting and the odd trevally still being caught
\n\u00bb The White Lady has a few squid and whiting
\n\u00bb The creek continues producing a few trevally and salmon.<\/p>\n

If so a most interesting and unusual opportunity has presented itself with the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) who recently announced it has started a recruitment drive to fill vacant Fisheries Officer positions across the state.<\/p>\n

VFA chief executive officer Travis Dowling said the roles would suit passionate individuals with integrity wanting a challenging career, often on the water, protecting fisheries resources for future generations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a job outside the nine to five normalities where your office is Victoria\u2019s beautiful waterways,\u201d Mr Dowling said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe positions will be full time, ongoing and based predominantly in regional Victoria.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe VFA is committed to increasing the diversity of its workforce, so women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe successful candidates will become part of a team of 74 Fisheries Officers stationed throughout Victoria from Mallacoota in Victoria\u2019s far east, north to Swan Hill and west to Portland.<\/p>\n

\u201cDay-to-day duties vary enormously and range from enforcing recreational and commercial fishing rules to apprehending persons engaged in serious illegal fishing activity.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers educate people about sustainable and responsible fishing, assist with fish stockings and fisheries management activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey also work with other natural resource management, maritime safety and emergency management agencies to protect our valuable aquatic environments and keep people safe on the water.\u201d<\/p>\n

Being a Fisheries Officer can be a rewarding and challenging career, especially if you enjoy working in the outdoors and in an enforcement role.<\/p>\n

A Fisheries Officer\u2019s main role is to ensure compliance with the Fisheries Act and Regulations. These regulations ensure that our fisheries resources are managed sustainably and shared equitably by the community.<\/p>\n

Fisheries Officers also participate in public education and awareness programs around the state to help foster a greater awareness of fisheries resources and the need for their protection.<\/p>\n

Fisheries Officers are trained to carry out a wide range of duties \u2013 on land, at sea and on inland waterways.<\/p>\n

On any given day they could be conducting inspections of recreational fishers on a local pier, participating in an education program at a local school, undertaking surveillance work or boarding a commercial fishing vessel at sea. They also work closely with other agencies such as Victoria Police or Parks Victoria when necessary.<\/p>\n
