MORE than 80 boats took to the water for the annual Sail Bellarine Regatta at Indented Head earlier<\/p>\n

this month.<\/p>\n

Run on May 3 and May 4, the event was hosted by the indented Head Yacht Club with the support of McCrae Yacht Club and the St Leonards Yacht Club and\u00a0Motor Squadron.<\/p>\n

Event organisers said the racing was spectacular, while attendees praised the running and organisation.<\/p>\n

“As a regatta organiser we felt we excelled at the regatta this year, everyone had a good time, including the volunteers and race officials,” Sail Bellarine coordinator Peter Ellenby said.<\/p>\n

Weather conditions aided in the success of the event producing two days of clear skies and warm temperatures.<\/p>\n

The wind was also steady over the weekend, light throughout Saturday and picking up over Sunday, producing significant waves to surf.<\/p>\n

The races were made up of six classes and 2025 welcomed the Flying Dutchman boats.<\/p>\n

Category winners included David Buckley in ILCA 7, Jack Vermeer in ILCA 6, Callum Simmons in ICLA 4, Stirling Marshall in Optimist, Murray O’Brien in Sabre, Roger Blasse in OK Dinghy, Chris Dance and Thomas Johnston in Tasar, Gary Cameron and Darren Hocking in Flying Dutchman, Ron Fergusson in Aero 7 and RS Aaron Flavell in RS Aero 6<\/p>\n

Sail Bellarine thanked all the volunteers who helped make the event possible, from preparing the sight and registering competitors through to serving food and drink and the people who stayed to help clean up.<\/p>\n

Mr Ellenby also thanked the City of Greater Geelong for their continued support in the event, with their grant making it all possible.<\/p>\n

“The regattas, they’re not financially viable as an event, and the City of Greater Geelong makes the regatta possible.<\/p>\n

“They’ve been excellent for us, for the last five years they’ve given us a grant of $5,000 for each of the events, so that’s been fantastic, that grant has been a great help.”<\/p>\n
