A LOCAL Barwon Heads restaurant is staging one last event before closing its doors next month to undergo renovations.<\/p>\n

At The Heads will host a Final Fling on June 8 before closing for about three months.<\/p>\n

Owner Tarren Colwell said the business had been working towards the renovations for the past five years, with a majority of the works to take place in the Mulloway room.<\/p>\n

“That will be getting opened right up to sit probably about 50 people and then that will join on to an updated outdoor area to the south and then an update to the kitchen.<\/p>\n

“It’s just a real cleaning up of the back of house areas, there’s a couple of smaller buildings at the moment which are not very useful, so it’s just tidying up all that area.”<\/p>\n

Mr Colwell said there had always been a vision of wanting to reinvigorate the property.<\/p>\n

Aiming to reopen in time for the AFL Grand Final in September, At The Heads hopes to present an even nicer place for visitors.<\/p>\n

“It will be a lot fresher, a lot cleaner, the side bar will be a lot bigger, it will have a fireplace and a TV and it will be beautiful and cozy in winter, then in summer it’ll open out onto the refreshed outdoor area,” Mr Colwell said.<\/p>\n

“I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the works that we do.<\/p>\n

“We’re super-conscious that it’s a beautiful old building and it’s got a lot of warmth and a lot of character to it, and we really want to retain all of those things.”<\/p>\n

The Final Fling is being presented as an opportunity for the community to reminisce about the times shared over the years, and close that chapter of the building while being excited for what comes next.<\/p>\n

“This will be the most significant renovation that the building’s had in its lifetime, which is only about 25 years,” Mr Colwell said.<\/p>\n

“There’s been a lot of weddings and anniversaries and celebrations of life, so it means a lot of different things to a lot of people, so we’d love for those people to come along and think fondly about the great times they’ve had here.”<\/p>\n

At The Heads will officially close for the works on June 10.<\/p>\n
