THE Sands Torquay is celebrating a landmark season for its women’s golfers following their win in Division 3 Pennant competition.<\/p>\n
The team of Kerry Bond, Danielle Walker, Linda Turner, Ro Hayden, Karen Lombardi and Andrea Harvey secured four wins, one draw and a loss across six matches this year.<\/p>\n
They locked in the Pennant win with a final-round victory over Londale Links.<\/p>\n
The Sands Torquay women’s club captain Danielle Walker said the team was thrilled with the victory<\/p>\n
“It’s very exciting for the club and for women’s golf.<\/p>\n
“We are a smaller group of women. We only have the one team whereas many other clubs have three or four.<\/p>\n
“We’ve had some previous wins in Pennant, but one of our last was Division 6 in 2022. We have come up a few divisions.<\/p>\n
“It goes off a promotion and relegation process. We will be up in division 2 next year.”<\/p>\n
The Sands has roughly 100 women’s members, many of whom have expressed interest in playing competition.<\/p>\n
Ms Walker said the club was hopeful of fielding another team in Pennant next year.<\/p>\n
She said some of the newer ladies were keen to join in.<\/p>\n
“We are definitely wanting to see more women playing it and participating in our ladies’ clinics. We are always keen to grow our women’s membership base.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
