GENU has celebrated its volunteers and their impact on communities across the Barwon region.<\/p>\n

As part of National Volunteer Week, which runs from May 19 to May 25, genU acknowledged and celebrated around 25 of its volunteers with an afternoon tea.<\/p>\n

genU chief operating officer Brooke Draper presented the awards, thanking each volunteer for their impact.<\/p>\n

“Our volunteers give selflessly and are quietly passionate about the roles they play, helping in a multitude of ways to ensure our clients remain connected to our community.<\/p>\n

‘Volunteering creates lasting relationships that helps build genuinely inclusive communities and giving to others fosters community engagement, connection and belonging.<\/p>\n

“At genU, we understand the holistic value of volunteers to further enhance the services and supports we deliver to our people.”<\/p>\n

Frances Hose was one of eight volunteers awarded for their years of service.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ms Hose has donated her time for three decades, supporting seniors to feel connected with their community through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme has taken on a number of roles with the highlight being meeting community members.<\/p>\n

“I’ve enjoyed the interactions with all sorts of different people,” she said.<\/p>\n

“If people don’t have anyone who visits them, my visit helps to brighten up their day.”<\/p>\n

genU chief executive officer Clare Amies said their volunteers deliver a vital service.<\/p>\n

“Volunteers gain a strong sense of fulfilment when giving back to the community and are deeply invested in whatever role they choose to take on.<\/p>\n

“This helps residents maintain a connection to community and we know this results in improved mental health and reduces the likelihood of them becoming isolated at a time of their lives when they ned to remain connected.”<\/p>\n
