A REGIONAL partnership to prevent violence against women has more than doubled in size since its relaunch one year ago, with 38 organisations now working together across the Barwon South West.<\/p>\n
Led by Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West, the Respect 2040 initiative aims to address gender inequality and create communities where women and girls are free from violence.<\/p>\n
Chief executive Jodie Hill said the partnership’s rapid growth showed both a strong need and growing momentum for change.<\/p>\n
“We’re seeing organisations step up, take ownership, and actively contribute to a future where equality and respect are the standard – not the exception.”<\/p>\n
Bellarine Community Health chief executive Kathy Russell said a respectful organisational culture was essential to protect both clients and staff.<\/p>\n
“An organisational culture and leadership that values respectful behaviour is key to preventing discrimination and violence for both our clients and our workforce,” she said.<\/p>\n
The alliance includes local councils, health services, education providers, sporting clubs and community groups. Partners have introduced staff training, reformed recruitment processes and updated workplace policies to support gender equity.<\/p>\n
Borough of Queenscliffe HR and governance coordinator Jenni Walker said the council was committed to playing its part.<\/p>\n
“A Barwon South West region where women and girls are free from violence and able to thrive is<\/p>\n
an important and achievable goal if we all work together,” she said.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the partnership reflected the region’s shared commitment to change.<\/p>\n
“When everyone feels respected and heard, our entire city thrives.”<\/p>\n
Respect 2040 follows the national framework for the primary prevention of violence against women and is focused on long-term, systemic change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
