LOCAL female street artists are being encouraged by the City of Greater Geelong to participate in the Women in Street Art (WiSA) program.<\/p>\n
The initiative aims to foster, support and build a collection of purposeful street art by women from a diverse range of backgrounds.<\/p>\n
Through the creation of wall-based street art installations across Geelong’s CBD, the program will amplify the contributions of women in public art while addressing broader societal discussions around gendered representations.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the program aligned with the city’s vision of reflecting the stories of diverse and under-represented groups within the area.<\/p>\n
“The WiSA program builds on the success of the Women’s Street Art Commission Project the city ran in 2022.<\/p>\n
“This program supports the Victorian Government’s broader initiative to address gender equality in public art.”<\/p>\n
Cr Emma Sinclair said this opportunity was open to artists across a diverse range of wall-based media.<\/p>\n
“This program will help Geelong be known as a place that supports women in public art.<\/p>\n
“We look forward to seeing the exciting and powerful works that will emerge through this program.”<\/p>\n
Submissions must include artwork examples representing the artist’s original work and reflect artistic excellence, innovation and originality.<\/p>\n
Expressions of interest close on June 23.<\/p>\n
