THE Drysdale community is invited to learn all about the health risks of gas heating and cooking at an upcoming health talk and cooking demonstration.<\/p>\n

To be held at the SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre on Monday, June 23, the evening is aimed at raising awareness of the hidden risks of gas heating and cooking.<\/p>\n

The event is the fourth in a series, all on different topics, giving people ideas on how they can improve their homes and vehicles.<\/p>\n

SpringDale sustainability co-ordinator Rob Gardner said people switching from gas tended to replace their hot water first, followed by a pump and often leave their kitchen last.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think many people realise how much asthma, in particular children, come from gas. Gas has quite a good name and it probably isn’t deserved.<\/p>\n

“We find some people, when they start this journey of getting off gas, appreciate the health impacts on children in particular, but on everybody, and so that becomes the first priority rather than the last one, but historically it was the final step.”<\/p>\n

People heading along can expect to hear about what can be done to create safer, healthier homes.<\/p>\n

Medical and energy experts including Dr Seung Bae from Doctors for the Environment Australia and Dr Cass Woinarski will share the latest on the health impacts of indoor gas use.<\/p>\n

Practical tips and sample tasting from Anne Brackley and Treevore Parker will lead the hands-on cooking demonstrations using induction cooktops and air fryers.<\/p>\n

At the free event attendees will learn about the affordable and effective electric alternatives, how to make the switch at home and the simple cooking solutions anyone can do.<\/p>\n

Mr Gardner said organisers hoped people left the event with a greater understanding of the risks of gas and how easy it is to replace.<\/p>\n
