OCEAN Grove co-coach Dave Farrell has described his team’s breakthrough BFL victory as a reward for hard work rather than a relief.<\/p>\n
The bottom-of-the-ladder Grubbers beat fifth-ranked Anglesea 17.8 (110) to 10.9 (69), to secure their second win of the year and first since Round 1.<\/p>\n
They got a hot start and led by 14 points at three-quarter-time.<\/p>\n
“It’s interesting because relief isn’t really the word I’d use,” Farrell said of the young team.<\/p>\n
“We’ve been working really hard and we’re still getting enormous numbers to training.<\/p>\n
“Our group goes into each game with a bit of a plan on how we might be able to win or compete for four quarters, but there’s a real belief within the playing group.<\/p>\n
“So whether it’s them turning up to training or when we get to a game on a Saturday, there’s real confidence.”<\/p>\n
Farrell also lauded the players commitment to the club, especially off-field to ensure everything runs smoothly.<\/p>\n
Ocean Grove play away to Queenscliff tomorrow (Saturday, June 28) at 2.10pm.<\/p>\n
“[It’s] just sustaining what we can control and how we play, if we can come out and bring the same effort and the same level of concentration that we did [last Saturday], then we’ll be in the game,” Farrell said.<\/p>\n
He praised the Coutas for their form across the past two months, which has included six wins and one loss.<\/p>\n
“To test ourselves against the side that is really confident and has a really clear understanding of how they want to play, that’s exciting for us,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
