DETAILED design plans for stage two of the North Bellarine Aquatic Centre (NBAC) have been completed.<\/p>\n

The Project Control Group, made up of City of Greater Geelong staff, Victorian government representatives and community members, has approved the plans, which have been released for public viewing.<\/p>\n

As a result, the city has gone to market for a construction tender, with submissions now being evaluated, and a recommendation will be made to the city on a preferred head contractor to build the Drysdale facility.<\/p>\n

Stage two of NBAC follows the 50m outdoor pool in stage one, and will comprise a 25m indoor pool and warm water exercise pool in a dedicated pool hall, along with a gym, two group fitness rooms and a caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Both new pools will promote accessibility, offering ramps for easy entry and exit.<\/p>\n

The city expects the indoor centre will be ready for community use in late 2027.<\/p>\n

The federal and Victorian governments have each committed $20 million to the project, with the city contributing up to $300,000.<\/p>\n

Corangamite federal member Libby Coker said the milestone was a testament to strong community advocacy and partnership across all levels of government.<\/p>\n

“This project has been driven by the north Bellarine community, and I’m so pleased to see it take another big step forward.<\/p>\n

“The Albanese government is proud to contribute $20 million towards a facility that will support residents of all ages to stay active, connected and healthy.”<\/p>\n

Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said it was exciting to see the work of the Project Control Group and how it had guided the development of an indoor aquatic facility for the community.<\/p>\n

“The North Bellarine Aquatic Centre has been very popular within our local community so far over the warmer months, and I know many locals are looking forward to enjoying an even bigger and better facility that will be open year-round.”<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the approval of detailed design plans for an indoor aquatic centre was an important milestone.<\/p>\n

“We know that the Drysdale community is very excited for the delivery of stage two of the North Bellarine Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n

“The $40.3 million facility will further support the growing community on the Bellarine through lap swimming, warm water exercise, hydrotherapy, learn-to-swim lessons and gym classes.<\/p>\n

“We thank the Community Advisory Panel for its work early in the project to inform the scope and advocate on behalf of the broader community.”<\/p>\n
