DRYSDALE Football Club is paving the way for women\u2019s football.<\/p>\n
The inaugural Lady Hawks Senior Women\u2019s\u00a0team competed in the Goldfields league last year, and this season they are the only team from the Bellarine and Surf Coast region to have made Division 1 in the first AFL Barwon= Senior Women\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n
Drysdale Lady Hawks vice-captain and rookie player Lauren Martella said she was excited to see her team grow and challenge themselves in Division one.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s definitely a reflection of the ground\u00a0work the Drysdale Football Club has put into their women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe professionalism and care the coaching staff and trainers have for us is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said that in 10 years\u2019 time, it would be the norm for girls to play footy at a senior level.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll definitely see the skills develop over the next decade, with girl\u2019s having the opportunity from day dot to have a kick of the footy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to know the Drysdale Football Club and the Lady Hawks are a part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Drysdale U\/15 girls\u2019 team is also reaching new heights, with many players already standing out within the competition.<\/p>\n
Under 15 girl\u2019s coach and Lady Hawks captain Prue Davies said her team had exceeded her expectations and that she was looking forward to the future of women\u2019s football at Drysdale.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe girls have been fantastic.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything I\u2019ve been telling them they\u2019ve taken on board and I\u2019m really happy with how they\u2019re going.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is so much support for each other and their efforts as a team have just been incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said there was a growing interest of girls wanting to play AFL which was exciting; and not only play but really improve on their game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is mateship on and off the field, and I think that\u2019s a testament to being part of such a great club.\u201d<\/p>\n
