TWO new units in Ocean Grove will soon be sold to help raise money for people in need.<\/p>\n
The Barwon Grove Foundation, which is made up of 34 members from the Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads, purchased and subdivided a block of land at 34 Silverwood Parade in Kingston Estate two years ago.<\/p>\n
Construction started on two units comprising three bedrooms and two bathrooms in February, and they will hit the real estate market around the end of July.<\/p>\n
Foundation president Bill Willocks said he anticipated the units would sell for around $550,000 each, with proceeds going to disadvantaged people in the community.<\/p>\n
The foundation was formed in 2015 by a committee of six Lions Club members, which has now grown to more than 30.<\/p>\n
While working on a foodbank project run by the Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads, it became obvious to members that the recipients of food-related charity were also in need of assistance with housing and other welfare.<\/p>\n
The foundation\u2019s overall plan is to purchase land and build accommodation – slowly building its equity and assets – to meet its objective of helping those in need in the local community.<\/p>\n
Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads member Philip Scambler said the club received requests daily from people who were in need of rental assistance, food or health support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe proceeds of these two houses will eventually go to help those who need help with rental costs, we basically want to make life affordable for people who are struggling to maintain their existence.\u201d<\/p>\n
