{"id":105924,"date":"2025-07-04T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=105924"},"modified":"2025-07-02T15:43:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T05:43:19","slug":"grab-your-beanie-and-get-your-young-people-outdoors-these-winter-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/grab-your-beanie-and-get-your-young-people-outdoors-these-winter-holidays\/","title":{"rendered":"Grab your beanie and get your young people outdoors these winter holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT is known that playing outside in winter offers children several benefits, including improved physical health through movement and fresh air and stronger immunity.<\/p>\n<p>Play and outdoor skill development supports mental well-being and building resilience, while also encouraging creativity, problem-solving, social interaction and life skills.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, it fosters a deeper connection to nature and helps children appreciate seasonal changes in our local plants, animals and country.<\/p>\n<p>The Anglesea Y offer several events across the holidays and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>What is Forest Skills?<\/p>\n<p>A day where young people, aged five and up, can create, build and play with our loose parts zone and bush area.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/07\/DSC02550sawtable_72073.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outdoor play and skill development supports mental well-being and building resilience.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They can build a cubby, make a rope swing, build a block head sculpture, or a pallet fort, our flexible program allows young people to spend the day outdoors with guided theme-based activities and time for free and creative outdoor play.<\/p>\n<p>Our site has an undercover area, an undercover and outdoor fire pit in addition to options for children to choose tents or a tarp\u00a0shelter if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Our young people need now more than ever a space to become independent, to take a chance and feel the thrill of a homemade swing, to assess risk dynamically when tree climbing and to feel the pride of using a new tool to create.<\/p>\n<p>The program is based on Forest School philosophies and is delivered by empowering staff using play-work principles.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/07\/Z_ropeplay_72003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">By participating in camps at the Anglesea Y, children have the opportunity to be independent and asses risk dynamically.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Each Kids Go Bush Holiday Session has a daily theme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, July 8 &#8211; Building and Construction &#8211; create structures and play spaces<\/p>\n<p>Friday, July 11 &#8211; Survival Challenge &#8211; conquer natures challenges<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, July 15 &#8211; Bushcraft &#8211; Get hands on and creative in the wild.<\/p>\n<p>Other Events at The Anglesea Y<\/p>\n<p>Family Nature Play for early years ages and siblings with themed activities, our single sessions are a great introduction to our term-based Bush Playgroups which operate every day of the week or a fun way to connect in the bush.<\/p>\n<p>School&#8217;s Out is a day for Primary School ages to try adventurous activities and will include at least two school camp activities &#8211;
