THE City of Greater Geelong has declared a Special Charge Scheme<\/p>\n
to support the sealing of a 105m section of Drysdale’s Newcombe Street, between Princess Street and The Glen.<\/p>\n
The proposed works aim to enhance local access and amenity in response to concerns raised by nearby residents.<\/p>\n
The total estimated cost of the project is $132,768, with the city committing $38,724.00 (29 per cent) of the funding.<\/p>\n
The remaining $94,044 (71 per cent) would be contributed by the owners of 10 properties that directly benefit from the improvements.<\/p>\n
The scheme would apply for a period of five years from the date it is levied.<\/p>\n
Councillors moved to declare the special charge scheme at their most recent meeting.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the decision reflected the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting the community’s desire for improving infrastructure across the municipality.<\/p>\n
“Under this scheme, the user experience and livability of Newcombe Street will be improved.<\/p>\n
“These improvements will make a real difference for the residents who use the road every day.”<\/p>\n
Cr Rowan Story said the upgrade will help strengthen community connections in addition to improving safety.<\/p>\n
