{"id":106679,"date":"2025-07-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=106679"},"modified":"2025-07-16T16:55:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T06:55:13","slug":"geelong-projects-reach-international-audience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/geelong-projects-reach-international-audience\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong projects reach international audience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWO Geelong design projects are on show in France and Portugal, showcasing local innovation and creativity on the world stage.<\/p>\n<p>The Dell Eco Reef, an artificial reef structure developed to combat coastal erosion and habitat loss, is being exhibited at the Trienal de Design de Covilh\u00e3 in Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>In France, Perpetual Pigments \u2013 a research project exploring pigment extraction from textile waste \u2013 is featured at the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-\u00c9tienne 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said both projects demonstrated how local designers were tackling environmental and social challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Dell Eco Reef and Perpetual Pigments projects are outstanding examples of how Geelong designers are using creativity to address environmental and social challenges,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Exhibiting in Portugal and France places Geelong on the world stage, forging global connections and creating new pathways for collaboration, investment and shared learning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/07\/DellEcoReeffromabove_59423.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Dell Eco Reef is currently on display in Portugal, highlighting a solution to coastal erosion and habitat loss.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Dell Eco Reef was created by Australian designer Alex Goad in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong and trialled at Clifton Springs using modular, marine-friendly structures to support biodiversity and environmental restoration.<\/p>\n<p>Perpetual Pigments was developed by Deakin University&#8217;s Institute for Frontier Materials with support from Sustainability Victoria. The project extracts colour from discarded textiles to produce micropigments for use in art, fashion and design.<\/p>\n<p>Environment and Circular Economy chair Cr Elise Wilkinson said the projects reflected Geelong&#8217;s status as a UNESCO City of Design.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Together, these international exhibitions strengthen ties with other UNESCO Creative Cities and demonstrate Geelong&#8217;s ongoing commitment to innovation-led economic development, cultural diplomacy and global design leadership,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TWO Geelong design projects are on show in France and Portugal, showcasing local innovation and creativity on the world stage.
