THE Surf Coast and Bellarine’s top surfers will head to Phillip Island later this year for the 10,000-point marquee Rip Curl GromSearch event.<\/p>\n

The surfing classic has just been locked in for October and will bring elite surfers to the Bass Coast Shire to battle for valuable rating points in their quest for a spot in the Irukandjis team heading to the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.<\/p>\n

More than 180 competitors are expected to compete over the five-day event, making it one of the biggest junior events in the country.<\/p>\n

Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopolous said it was fantastic to see the event receiving such strong support.<\/p>\n

“The inaugural Phillip Island Junior Pro was a massive hit and we hope it will be even bigger this year with the continued support of the Victorian Government, Bass Coast Shire Council and Rip Curl.”<\/p>\n

“We can’t wait to welcome the GromSearch back to Bass Coast this October providing a boost for local jobs and businesses.”<\/p>\n

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson echoed his excitement.<\/p>\n

“Ensuring Victoria hosts a marquee junior event each year is key to our development pathway and ensures our surfers get the best opportunity to gain points and develop their skills against the best from other states,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We are proud to partner with Rip Curl, The Bass Coast Shire and Victoria Government to bring back the Rip Curl GromSearch to Phillip Island.”<\/p>\n

Rip Curl sports marketing manager Angus Forrest said the future of Australian surfing had never looked brighter.<\/p>\n

“The next generation are constantly pushing boundaries and elevating the sport.<\/p>\n

“Phillip Island is always a standout stop on the GromSearch series, showcasing top talent ahead of the National Final at URBNSURF Sydney later this year.”<\/p>\n
