{"id":108029,"date":"2025-08-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=108029"},"modified":"2025-08-14T12:42:05","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T02:42:05","slug":"emergency-planning-group-seeks-new-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/emergency-planning-group-seeks-new-members\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency planning group seeks new members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong is seeking two community members to join its Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) and help plan for and respond to emergencies in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The MEMPC works with agencies including Victoria Police, CFA, SES, Red Cross and Emergency Recovery Victoria to identify risks, develop strategies and update the Municipal Emergency Management Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants should have connections to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community service clubs<\/li>\n<li>The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community<\/li>\n<li>Multicultural groups and leaders<\/li>\n<li>Business, retail and tourism, or<\/li>\n<li>Agriculture and farming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Successful candidates will serve a two-year term, meet quarterly and after major emergencies, and may join five sub-committees focused on areas that require more substantial planning: <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/councils-focus-on-flood-repairs\/\">flood and storm management<\/a>, risk and consequence, public health emergencies, relief and recovery, and fire management in partnership with the Borough of Queenscliffe.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the role was vital to the region&#8217;s preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Emergencies can develop at any time and without warning, so it&#8217;s vital that as a community we&#8217;re well prepared.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need residents with the knowledge, experience and community connections who can make a difference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cr Chris Burson, chair of the council&#8217;s safety, graffiti and regulation portfolio, said the positions suited people passionate about community protection and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is your chance to step up for your community ahead of challenging and fast-paced situations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Applicants will be assessed on experience in community-based committees, knowledge of local emergency management issues and their ability to access networks and stakeholder groups.<\/p>\n<p>Expressions of interest close 5pm September 12.<\/p>\n<p>For details, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/geelong.link\/MEMPC-EOI\">geelong.link\/MEMPC-EOI<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong is seeking two community members to join its Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) and help plan for and respond to emergencies in the region.
