SCHOOLS, libraries and early learning centres across Australia embraced Book Week for 2025, dressing up as their favourite story characters and celebrating a love for reading.<\/p>\n

The annual event began on August 16 and came to an end on August 23, with schools around the region hosting special Book Week parades and activities.<\/p>\n

Co-ordinated by the Children’s Book Council of Australia, this year Children’s Book Week celebrated 80 years with the theme ‘Book an Adventure.’<\/p>\n

Queenscliff’s St Aloysius Primary School embraced the theme, culminating in a parade, with the school embarking on an adventure last Friday (August 23.)<\/p>\n

Dressed as their favourite characters, staff and students lined Hesse Street, embraced by parents, grandparents and community members before moving to the town’s RSL.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Di Rule and Cr Isabelle Tolhurst joined in for a reading of one of the shortlisted books.<\/p>\n

A class costume fashion parade also took place, with costumes including Cat in the Hat, Dorothy, Paddington Bear, Fantastic Mr Fox, Where’s Wally, Willy Wonka and many more.<\/p>\n

The adventures didn’t stop there, with students from grades 3 to 6 touring Fort Queenscliff, learning about historic events behind the walls and beyond.<\/p>\n

Students and parents heard facts about why the Fort was built, how voices travel within the walls and the engineering of all the weaponry.<\/p>\n

Book Week will return in 2026 and will run from August 22 until August 28, with the new theme to be announced tomorrow (Friday, August 29).<\/p>\n
